Chasing a phantom

The reintroduction of the Ural owl is an exciting enterprise indeed. Previous investigations focused primarily on the owls´ breeding biology, food spectrum and space utilization. Having been ringed and partly marked with radio transmitters, the released individuals provide an excellent opportunity to study their behavior and annidation.

Topics to be investigated in future studies include questions relating to ecological delimitation from the tawny owl, habitat quality features of sustainably managed forests and successive distribution starting from the sites of release along the northern side of the Alps.
